Project - Pro Street Corvair (PROVAIR)

Quite a task - take a mild 140 stock horsepower rear engine out, replace it with an LT1 engine, but move it to the front of the car.  Build a full frame, rollcage, 4-link rear suspension, and make it look totally cool.  But you know we are up for the challenge.  This car has seen several changes, including adding steel ground effects all around, cutting a hole for a grill in the front, exiting the exhaust out the side of the car, etc.  Check out the progress so far:

After some time sitting still, this car is back in the shop with a new agenda - the full-on ProStreet treatment.  The entire back half of the car has been shelled out to make room for some whopping big 29x18 Mickey Thompson tires.

Rear framerails and rollbars built, new 9" Moser rearend (3.70 gears) in place.  4-link and Shockwave suspension started.

Custom offset 4-link rear suspension is complete, shocks mounted - now this car raises and lowers at the push of a button!

The rear wheel-wells had to be stretched to accomodate the big x huge rear tires. This meant totally refabricating the rear corners of the car. Note the late-model Corvette inspired sharp corners angling down toward the rear valance - completely molded in of course.

The triangulated 4-link is complete, as is the rest of the rollbar system supporting the new rear framerails and protecting the passengers. Floor pans are started, tunnel is complete. No, there isn't a backseat anymore - besides, everyone will want to sit up front anyway.

Rearend painted - check out those huge 29x18 Mickey Thompsons!! Sheetmetal floor, tunnel, tubs and most of trunk area complete.

Trunk sheetmetal is mostly complete, fuel cell and battery box mounted, decklid remounted with modified hinges and hold-open latch. Engine mockup mostly complete (don't worry, the engine will be rebuilt and look much nicer when it goes back in).
