1969 Dodge Charger Project General Lee #18 This General Lee replica project actually started out as a running driving car, which is very unusual. But we still go through the same process - tearing it all apart and putting it all back together again - one piece at a time. Here's how it started: Powered by a stout 440, this engine is topped with a Weiand intake, Edelbrock carb, Mopar electronic ignition and polished valve covers. The engine bay was painted body color and every component was painted to match the orange and black. The interior was done in Saddle Tan, and includes a main loop rollbar, restored console and dash faceplates. There are new oil pressure, temp and voltage gauges in the original holes. The steering wheel was restored, and the horn button activates either the dixie horn, or a regular horn with the flip of a hidden switch. The trunk was painted body color and then carpeted to match the interior. Several layers of Hemi Orange paint cover the straight sheetmetal, adorned with the 01, Confederate Flag, and General Lee markings covered with lots of clear. The original-style pushbar protects a restored grill. The car rides on 15x7 vectors (front) and 15x8.5 vectors (rear), all wrapped in BFG rubber. Both front and rear suspensions have been completely rebuilt, with the addition of disc brakes in front to help bring the car down from high speeds. |
